Our Challenge Toward Carbon Neutrality

Approach

The NGK Group identifies carbon neutrality as one of its key priorities, guided by the NGK Group Environmental Vision. We actively develop and provide products that contribute to a carbon-neutral society. We also work to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from our business activities and strengthen engagement with customers and other stakeholders across the entire value chain. Through these initiatives, we aim to achieve both a sustainable society and the sustainable improvement of corporate value.

This graph shows our planned actions toward carbon neutrality. We target net zero GHG emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by FY2050 and a reduction of 90% or more in Scope 3 emissions compared to FY2022.

Carbon Neutrality Strategic Roadmap (Scope 1 and Scope 2)

For Scope 1 and Scope 2 targets, we have established the Carbon Neutrality Strategic Roadmap, which comprises four strategies. Our goal is to achieve net zero GHG emissions across the entire Group by 2050. As milestones on this path, we have set targets of 500,000 tons for FY2025 (actual result: 390,000 tons, already achieved) and 370,000 tons for FY2030 (a 50% reduction from the FY2013 base year). Going forward, we will advance fuel transition to hydrogen and ammonia and promote the development of CCU and CCS (carbon capture, utilization and storage) technologies, with a view to achieving net zero ahead of schedule.

This diagram explains the Carbon Neutrality Strategic Roadmap. We aim to achieve net zero CO₂ emissions across the entire Group by 2050.

Our Approach to the Value Chain (Scope 3)

To reduce Scope 3 emissions, we are advancing the following initiatives based on the emission levels of each category. Through these efforts, we aim to achieve both a sustainable society and the improvement of corporate value across the entire value chain.

  • Through dialogue and collaboration with suppliers, measure and reduce Category 1 emissions at the procurement stage, including raw materials
  • Contribute to reducing customers' energy consumption during use of our products (Category 11 reductions)
Scope 3 Emissions Reduction Target
This graph shows our approach to carbon neutrality across the value chain. We target a reduction of 90% or more in Scope 3 emissions compared to FY2022 by FY2050.
