1. Basic Approach to Social Contribution Activities

The NGK Group is committed to sustainability management for realizing its philosophy and vision and achieving sustainable growth. We recognize that the understanding and trust of stakeholders and local communities are essential for developing a business environment. Through our social contribution activities, we work with everyone involved in our domestic and overseas operations to help create safe, secure, and vibrant communities and address social issues.

At the same time, we enable our employees to engage in social contribution activities to take part as members of society and to experience the value of social contribution activities to realize a future filled with happiness and smiles. Through these activities, we expect employees to learn and grow, and that these experiences will foster a sense of unity and belonging.

Initiatives to Nurture the Future

We support the learning and development of future generations and strive to create an environment where diverse individuals can thrive in a variety of fields, contributing to the sustainable development of our neighboring communities. Supporting people who take on challenges and make efforts in areas such as culture, the arts, and sports, we facilitate activities that bring courage, inspiration, and happiness to people.

Creating Sustainable Local Environments

Guided by the NGK Group Environmental Vision, we work in partnership with the local communities to maintain and preserve sustainable environments. We focus on advancing carbon neutrality, promoting a recycling-oriented society, and harmony with nature. Through these efforts, we also raise environmental awareness among our employees.

Ensuring Safety and Security in Local Communities

Through disaster relief efforts, local events, and a variety of community engagement activities, we strengthen our ties with people in need and the communities where we operate. We also strive to expand our network of cooperation so that we can contribute to the safety, security, development, and well-being of local communities.

Social Contribution Activities

Japanese Language Learning Support for Foreign Children Living in Japan

NGK has been offering Japanese language learning support for foreign children living in Japan since 2022. In cooperation with the Aichi Employers' Association and the Central Japan Economic Federation, we provide our facilities to the Isshiki Cosmos Support Study Group (a voluntary organization based in Komaki, Aichi Prefecture) and the MIRAI Project (a general incorporated association based in Handa, Aichi Prefecture). In addition, NGK employees serve as assistant teachers using our volunteer leave system.

Wheelchair Tennis Support Initiatives

NGK has actively supported wheelchair tennis since 2020 as part of our support for persons with disabilities and promotion of local sports.
We assist wheelchair tennis athletes based in Aichi Prefecture in various ways, such as helping to fund their travel both in and outside of Japan. To accommodate wheelchair tennis players and enthusiasts alike, we built a new hard court and made the outdoor restrooms barrier free at the NGK Group company-operated Moronoki Tennis Club (Midori-ku, Nagoya City).
NGK has also concluded an official partner agreement with the Japan Wheelchair Tennis Association (JWTA), with whom we work to sponsor annual events, competitions, and other opportunities for expanding and developing the sport of wheelchair tennis.

Reforestation Activities: NGK Minnano Mori Mizunami

Responding to the concept of nature positivity, the NGK Group is promoting initiatives that position the conservation and restoration of biodiversity as a critical issue.
We are working to create a rich natural environment through reforestation activities in NGK Minnano Mori Mizunami, a forest owned by NGK in Mizunami, Gifu Prefecture. NGK cooperates with the local government to support the local beekeeping industry, and creates and enhances opportunities to learn about the natural environment.

Science Volunteers Sharing the Joy of Science with Children

NGK, as a manufacturing company, has been introducing the joy of science to children leading the next generation through the "NGK Science Site: Science Experiments You Can Do at Home" series, featured in science magazines like "Newton." TABLE FOR TWO Initiatives

NGK has been participating in the TABLE FOR TWO (“TFT”) program since September 2010. TFT is a volunteer activity in which employees can easily participate. When an employee eats a healthy meal at the company cafeteria, we contribute the equivalent of one meal (20 yen) to children in Africa. The program is active at all NGK cafeterias (eight cafeterias in four areas).
In addition, NGK Yu-Service, NGK Metex, and NGK Fine Molds in the NGK Group participate in the TABLE FOR TWO program through on-site vending machines.
