High-Temperature Dust Collector
Overview

NGK sells high temperature gas dust collectors that use "Cerallec," its proprietary ceramic filter developed by integrating technologies from honeycomb ceramics used for automotive exhaust gas purification and ceramic filters for water treatment.
While bag filters and electrostatic precipitators had traditionally been the mainstream for dust collection equipment, bag filters presented issues such as higher total costs due to cooling equipment, large installation space requirements, and filter clogging due to pore opening. Electrostatic precipitators also had problems, including high maintenance costs and fluctuations in collection efficiency caused by changes in the electrical resistance of dust particles.
The Cerallec system solves these challenges.
Characteristic

High Collection Efficiency
Recovery with an efficiency of over 99% is achievable.
It contributes to environmental protection and the highly efficient recovery of valuable materials.

High Separation Capability
The precisely controlled micropore structure enables separation of submicron particulates in gas streams and supports efficient recovery of advanced material precursors, including 5G grade silica and Li ion battery metals such as Ni, Co, and Mn.

High-Temperature Operation
The ceramic’s high thermal resistance and non combustibility enable safe filtration of high temperature gas streams. Eliminating gas cooling systems and allowing waste heat recovery supports cost, energy, and carbon reduction benefits.

Corrosion Resistance
The ceramic material offers high chemical durability and can be used with corrosive gases such as hydrochloric acid.

Long Service Life
High mechanical strength prevents pore degradation during back pulse cleaning, ensuring long filter life. Reduced replacement frequency in processes handling regulated powders such as nickel lowers operating costs and enhances safety.

Compact Design
The honeycomb structure provides a large surface area, reducing installation space to roughly one quarter to one half that of a bag filter. Eliminating gas cooling equipment enables an even more compact system layout.

Dust Collection & Powder Recovery Flow
With sub 5 μm, tightly controlled pore sizes, the filter captures particulates in exhaust gas. Periodic back pulse injection of high pressure gas cleans the filter and enables recovery of valuable materials.

Initial performance

The filter pressure drop is at the same level as a bag filter.
Filtration velocity: 1 m/min
Filter pressure drop: 0.5 kPa
Example of Application
NGK ’ Cerallec system is highly regarded for its excellent dust collection performance and compact installation footprint, and it is used across a wide range of industries.
From soot reduction measures in mobility-related fields such as marine vessels and railways, to the recovery of valuable materials from exhaust gases generated in the production of lithium ion battery cathode materials—essential for a decarbonized society—and silica used in communication infrastructure that supports the digital world, the Cerallec system quietly plays a vital role in supporting people’s everyday lives behind the scenes.
