Under development

Ceramic substrates for Direct Air Capture (DAC) systems to Capture CO₂ from the Atmosphere

We are developing a honeycomb structure sorbent material for DAC that can efficiently adsorb CO₂ based on technologies for ceramic substrates for automotive catalytic converters developed for automotive exhaust gas purification. This material will significantly reduce energy consumption and costs and help achieve carbon neutrality.

Sub-nano Ceramic Membranes

We have further improved on the performance with the development of Sub-nano ceramic membranes, which are able to separate specific molecules from mixed liquids or gases. These new ceramic filters make possible innovative separation processes that have the potential to save energy and reduce costs.

Zinc Rechargeable Batteries

Nickel-zinc rechargeable battery is storage battery that use zinc for the negative electrode and NGK’s proprietary ceramics for the separator between the positive and negative electrodes. This battery is characterized by high energy density, high safety, long service life, and maintenance-free features including remote monitoring and preventative maintenance, making it ideal for indoor installation and as a backup power source for key equipment.

Next-generation wafer

NGK is currently developing next-generation wafers by applying a proprietary crystal growth method, ultra-precision-polishing technology, and multi-materials bonding technology. NGK's wafers will contribute to the development and production of ultracompact, ultra high-speed devices for telecommunications while enhancing reliability and reducing costs of the power devices used in EVs and other applications.

High-speed Response CO₂ Sensor for Use Even in High-temperature, High-humidity Environments

By applying ceramic technologies cultivated through the development of automotive NOx sensors, we’re developing CO₂ sensors that allow precise real-time measurements of carbon dioxide concentrations, even in high-temperature and high-humidity environments.
This sensor will contribute to CCUS initiatives by making it possible to monitor CO₂ levels in vehicles and in manufacturing processes.
